Ethos Farm to Health Staff
The people who work at Ethos are connected by a shared belief - that food, and the way food is grown is central to determining human health and the health of everything around us. This belief inspires each workday and is the basis for our common endeavor of Tikkun Olam - repairing the world.
Nora Pugliese, Farm Manager
Nora Pugliese is a member of the Northeast Organic Farming Association and featured in local media such as New Jersey Monthly Magazine.
Nora started as a backyard gardener, becoming an apprentice organic farmer in 1994, at Farmer John’s Organic Produce – the first organic farm in New Jersey. She went on to work with John Canright, who mentored an entire generation of organic farmers in New Jersey.
In 2000, Nora started her own organic CSA, Stone’s Throw Garden, and ran it for over twelve years. She has taught and lectured both locally and nationally about organic farming. In 2014 Nora became the farm manager at the Ethos Farm to Health. Nora transitioned the farm to a certified organic operation and acquired a recent certification from The Real Organic Project.
Saul Bautista, M.D., MPH
Director of Medical Education
Dr Saul Bautista returns to Ethos where his education began. In 2015, collaborating with mentor Dr. Ronald Weiss, he pioneered the introduction of Lifestyle Medicine within medical education in New Jersey founding the NJMS Lifestyle Medicine Group where he oversaw the creation and implementation of various institutional and community lifestyle medicine initiatives.
He was nationally recognized with the American College of Lifestyle Medicine (ACLM) Donald A. Pegg Student Leadership Award in 2018 and one of 60 military veterans selected nationwide as a Tillman Scholar in 2019.
Jim Fredrickson
Assistant Farm Manager
Mutual flourishing lies at the heart of all that Jim does. He understands the inseparability between the parts of this complex system that we call (our) life. Caring for and building community motivates his life's work; "community" in the larger sense spans from soil ecology to watershed associations of neighbors down to gut microbiomes and through to human-integrated ecosystem health, mutual aid networks and beyond. Stewarding community means learning again to live in harmony with the living systems that give us life, and that's what he's here to do.
Christian Baresic
Administrative Assistant
Farm Market Associate
Christian grew up in suburban Northern New Jersey and has come to appreciate the open expanses of farmland in some of the less populated parts of the state. He has spent time living in Massachusetts and Oregon, explored various National Parks throughout the United States, and has settled down in Central New Jersey over the past few years. During the warmer months he maintains a bountiful garden full of life and vitality, and is growing strawberries for the first time this year! Christian can be found hiking at Harriman State Park, giving speeches at his Toastmasters club, and cooking for those he loves. As of summer 2026 he will be a certified yoga instructor and will be teaching one-off classes on the lawn at Ethos!
Justin Hoitsma
Ethos Farm Apprentice 2026
Justin’s passion for growing organic food developed naturally, almost instinctually, through a deeper reconnection with himself inspired by years of yoga and meditation. This shift led him towards simpler living, healthier food, and hands-on work with the land. He brings over a decade of backyard gardening experience, applying permaculture principles and intensive planting methods on a small scale. This hands-on experience has shaped his approach to both farming and life, with intention, consistency, and respect for the natural world. He is excited to join the team at Ethos Farm to Health and is committed to rooting, growing, and expanding his knowledge alongside the land and community.
Hannah Burke
Ethos Farm Apprentice 2026
Hannah raduated from Rutgers with degrees in music biomathematics. Throughout her education, she focused on ecological and agricultural systems. Working with both scientists and growers along the Delaware Bay inspired the potential for real, sustainable change at a local level - despite the enormous challenges facing our environment and food systems. As a cellist and singer-songwriter, she found a home in Jersey City where she takes part in a thriving social and artistic community. All the while, she worked as a seasonal educator at the Greater Newark Conservancy, and has not lost sight of the necessary connection between community, art, and land (and FOOD!). She is so looking forward to diving into a full season on the farm, and working alongside visionaries for our collective future
Addy Hollis
Ethos Farm Apprentice 2026
My name is Adalyce, but I also go by Addy, and I’m so excited to be joining Ethos Farm as an Apprentice. This will be my first full growing season working on a farm, and I couldn’t be more grateful for the opportunity. I recently graduated with a B.A. in Sustainable Food Systems from Prescott College, a small liberal arts school in Arizona. What drew me to Ethos is the emphasis on hands-on learning and the value of food as medicine. I'm also excited to continue growing through practice and grow abundant produce alongside a tight knit crew that wants to nourish all beings, whether below and above. I'm transitioning from my role as a Garden Crew Member on my college campus garden to a market garden, where I get to connect with regular members of the community, try new things, and root deeper in care.
